Croatian Language And Culture Course 2026: Fond Farewells!
As the sun sets on this year’s trip, student and onsite reporter, Julia Molden, completes the chronicle of the event (and its prelude) with a round up of the last day’s festivities, and…..breaking news….reveals the location for the Croatian Language and Culture Course 2027!
And here we are on the plane back to London, 37,000ft high flying over Korčula and Lastovo and all the other islands we have visited over the years. Yesterday was a relatively quiet day when we again played Scrabble this time during our lessons and competing against each other for cards and points. In the evening most of the surviving group met for our traditional farewell dinner at a restaurant on the Riva with lots of happy chatting about our exploits this week and our plans for next year.
I fell into bed absolutely exhausted but still managed to wake up in time to bid farewell to Linda, Zoran and John as they set off for the ferry to Split and journey onwards to Zagreb at 5.30am. It was our turn to leave at 9.00am and, although we were actually a quarter of an hour late thanks to me, we still managed to catch the 10.00am ferry from Korčula back to Orebić and continued tracing our steps from the past week back along the Pelješac peninsula, past Trsteno and finally reaching Cavtat, bypassing Dubrovnik. In Cavtat we had time for a quick lunch before proceeding to the airport and now we are on our way back home, our heads full of all the adventures of the past week, which will stay with us for a long time.
Having decided that our destination for next year will be Šibenik during the week commencing 19th June to 26th June, Linda and I will soon start searching for our school home and hope it will be as comfortable and suitable as our one in Vela Luka. As ever our thanks from all of us goes to Linda for all her work organising the wonderful excursions and great teaching that we have enjoyed from her and the ever-patient Zoran, and I will finish by saying “Doviđenja i nadam se da ćemo se vidjeti ponovo sljedeće godine.”

And of course, our thanks to Julia for keeping us all informed and to the two Johns for their help and support. We’d also like to thank our guide for the week, Marin Katić, and Stipe Nobilo, the Croatian artist who hosted us in his studio in Lumbarda.
